Pine Butcher Block - Economical But Versatile

A pine butcher block kitchen island combines the durability of a Butcher Block top with the economy and light-colored grain of pine.

Pine is found in furniture of all types because it is economical, looks great in many styles, and is good looking either clear, stained, or painted.

Though it is not as strong as, say, Red Oak, it is fine for less-expensive models that are constructed with a bit heavier design in the base and frame, a look quite common in Country and Rustic styles.

Butcher Block is usually made of blocks of Hardrock Maple laminated end or edge-grain to prevent warping and discourage cracking.

The grain is tight so the cutting surface is easy to clean and sanitize, yet it is easy on expensive cutlery and won't mar cooking utensils, pots and pans.

A Butcher Block has a very traditional appearance, it's been around for over a hundred years - and goes very well with the designs that are commonly made of pine.

Pine Butchers Block islands are available in several styles including Contemporary, Country or French Country, Hip or Avant Garde, European Chic, Traditional, and many more styles.

A Good Partner For An Installed Island

Kitchen islands commonly feature additional storage in an enclosed cabinet, drawers, bins and shelves.

Cooking and eating areas are brought  within the reach of the cook by an island equipped with drop-leaf breakfast bars and raised-shelf serving areas, and additional work space is provided on a top of durable material like metal, stone, or Butcher Block.

A small Pine island with a Butcher Block top, particularly if wheeled, is a good complement to an installed island with a stone or metal work surface in that it provides the best cutting surface for food preparation while the other surfaces are best for working with pastry dough and other cooking ingredients.
