Habersham Kitchen Island - Hand Painted
A Habersham kitchen island is a very unique piece of furniture from a very unique company.
Habersham Furniture Company was founded in 1972 by a fairly destitute but determined woman, Joyce Eddy, who combined a dedication to time-tested production methods with the skills of North Georgia's artisans to produce furniture in the style of American Folk Art.
First offered in 2002, Habersham's Kitchen and Bath collection is inspired by 18th century European palatial estates and the simple designs of the French countryside.
Now including 75 designs, including Habersham kitchen islands, the entire collection is hand-painted, styled, and designed in the Blue Ridge Mountain studios by the company's team of fine artists and designers.
A Unique Focal Point
Because Habersham furniture is built and finished by hand, the finished pieces are all unique, some available only as signed, numbered and dated limited editions.
Still, Habersham islands offer many of the same features found elsewhere.
The Breakfast Bar, for example, is finished in a choice of 30 hand-painted and wood-stained finishes with dark wood top and distressed neutral base.
It's handsome, but it also features a raised bar area, three drawers, two storage cabinets, and shelves.
The Sussex Kitchen Island is similar without the raised bar, both are large enough to install a sink or other appliances.
Kitchen islands are often made part of a kitchens design with the thought they create a natural point of focus in design and activity.
Certainly, their unique styles and finishes enhance that intent, but most Habersham designs are also large enough to create a more efficient floor plan and traffic flow, particularly in larger kitchens, and to divide the cooking and eating areas.
