Black Kitchen Island - A Strong Look That Enhances Casual Lives

Black kitchen island furniture has the advantage of fitting in with almost any kitchen decor, especially when the island is built in combinations of natural wood, stainless steel, stone, or butcher block.

Black also lends a certain gravity to an island, already the natural focal point of a kitchens design and activity.

Black kitchen islands also are reminiscent of what antique collectors know as 'ebonizing', a finish technique common in the 19th century, but modern designs and styles, particularly those using sturdy stainless steel frames and shelving, are enhanced by black paint or powder-coat finishes.

From Traditional To Contemporary

Many kitchen islands are offered with a number of available finishes and top surfaces.

A fine example is the Avalon from Michael Scott which is designed with two cabinets, two drawers, and bun feet that can be removed and replaced with included casters.

In addition to Antique White and Antique Oak, the Avalon is available in Antique Black, and featured  tops are Maple or Maple with drop-leaf, Silverado or Charcoal Granite, and stainless steel.

Typhoon, a company known for alternative and oriental kitchen accessories and utensils, offers a more modern design in a kitchen cart constructed of metal with chromium bars and racks, a stainless steel workspace on top, a bottom shelf with bottle rack beneath for storage, and a matte-black base to give the cart subtle style in a contemporary design.

Black islands are certainly very much in style, but what's really important are the features of the island and whether they suit your needs.

Designs range from small carts with butcher block tops to large installed kitchen islands with features like drop-leaf cutting boards or breakfast bars, raised storage or serving shelves, bar-sinks, appliances, storage cabinets, refrigeration units, wine racks and many other options.
